Coming to terms with difficult birth experience

Did you see “This is Going to Hurt”, the BBC series based on Adam Kay’s book about life as a junior doctor supporting women giving birth? There has been a lot of talk about people being ‘triggered’ or finding it too hard to watch, due to it bringing back memories of their own difficult experiences around birth.

Whether you are a new parent, or one that's had plenty of experience, if you were one of the people who couldn’t watch or read "This is Going to Hurt" then you may benefit from a specialist therapy called EMDR. It is a therapy designed to help reduce the triggering effect of difficult memories or experiences.

We have an online service here with Dr Jo Steadman. Jo is an expert in treating difficult or traumatic memories related to birth and becoming a parent.

Most patients are looking for around 6 appointments of EMDR and trauma therapy. We work online so that there is no inconvenience with travelling or waiting rooms. You just need a computer screen and somewhere private for an hour. Feel free to contact us to find out more or see our website

If therapy isn't for you then there is also great info on the website for Mind

We wish you all the very best with your parenting journey.
